Inkwell Vase in Dramatic Patterned Beech

Inkwell Vase in Dramatic Patterned Beech

£120.00

Our new Inkwell Vase shape is loosely based on 19th century English stoneware ink pots and is our take on a contemporary version of this form. These sculptural pieces are made to be beautiful, stand alone objects in their own right, but can also display dried flowers an architecturally selected twig or two or even pens and brushes.

To produce Patterned (spalted) Beech, fallen Beech trees are left on their sides for between 3-5 years and during this time the patterns develop as the log breaks down. Between the time on the ground and then air drying it can be 7-8 years after the tree was felled before we can work with this material. Once milled and dried the natural markings are locked in place and our challenge is to make sure that we do it justice and turn something beautiful from it. This vase, showcases the natural beauty of the wood’s intricate patterns and contrasting tones. The spalting process creates distinctive dark lines and color variations that make each piece one-of-a-kind. Combining artistry with functionality, it will add a warm, organic touch to any space.

Measures 14cm tall, 7cm wide with a 4cm diameter opening hollowed to a depth of 10cm.

Finished with a hard-wearing blend of natural plant oils and waxes that keep the wood as natural as possible.

For dry / ornamental use only.
