Small Arlo Bowl in Patterned Beech

Small Arlo Bowl in Patterned Beech

£295.00

Something really special here, a true one off and you would be forgiven for mistaking as stone. This piece is already 8 or 9 years old and has been a coveted part of our own private collection containing the best of the best we’ve ever made. But as with all creations there comes a time when the maker must release possession and allow someone else to feel the joy such a treasured object can bring. If the right collector is out there, then now is that time.

To produce this unique material fallen Beech trees are left on their sides for between 3-5 years and during this time the patterns are formed by fungi as they break the log down. Different woodlands contain different species each with their own pattern and colour fingerprints. This is one of the only examples we have ever see of copper lines being part of the pattern. Once the wood is milled and dried the fungi dies off and beautiful results are locked in place waiting to be revealed by our chisels. Between the time in the forest and then air drying it can be 6-8 years after the tree was felled before we get our hands on this material and our challenge is to make sure that we do it justice and turn something truly beautiful from it.
