As an added turning skills challenge it was decided to make this rare piece of timber into a light weight fine bowl with a natural edge. The making was white knuckle however, the result speaks for its self!

Hand-turned from a single piece of English burr elm, this piece showcases the extraordinary swirling grain that makes burrwood one of the most prized timbers in British woodworking. The dense, chaotic patterning is entirely natural, so no two pieces will ever look alike.

The Sensai shape is turned with a raised, sculptural profile that puts the timber's grain and figure on full display.

This bowl is designed and made to be displayed as a standalone sculptural object.

Details

• Burr Elm, hand-turned from a single solid piece

• Finished with a hardwearing blend of natural plant oils and waxes

• Approx. 19.5cm diameter and 4cm tall and 3cm deep

• Care - Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Re-oil periodically to maintain the finish. Avoid prolonged contact with water and don't put in the dishwasher.
