Hand-turned from a single piece of English burr elm, this piece showcases the extraordinary swirling grain that makes burrwood one of the most prized timbers in British woodworking. The dense, chaotic patterning is entirely natural, so no two pieces will ever look alike. The dense burr figuring means the grain pattern is even more pronounced than on a standard piece. A natural void in the timber has been left open rather than filled, showing exactly how the tree grew.

The Fairlight shape is our original design, born from rethinking the conventional rules of woodturning. Traditional bowls keep an even wall thickness throughout, which limits their form and wastes much of the timber. We kept the clean, straight exterior but introduced a sweeping interior curve — combining the architectural presence of a straight-sided vessel with the organic depth of a classic bowl.

We recommend this piece is displayed as a standalone sculptural object.

• Finished with a food safe hardwearing blend of natural plant oils and waxes

• Approx. 20cm diameter and 6.5cm tall and 5cm deep

• Care - Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Re-oil periodically to maintain the finish. Avoid prolonged contact with water and don't put in the dishwasher.
