As an added turning skills challenge it was decided to make this rare piece of timber with a natural edge into a tray rather then a flat trivet style piece. The making was white knuckle, however the result speaks for its self!

You are not likely to see a finer example of burr elm… Hand-turned from a single piece of English burr elm, this piece showcases the extraordinary swirling grain that makes burrwood one of the most sort after timbers in British woodworking. The dense, chaotic patterning is so highly prized that the vast majority is sent off the be peeled into thin veneer that is then glued to a substrate somewhere in the furniture industry. This tray however, is solid!

This tray is designed to be a decorative object or for dry use only.

• Care - Dust or wipe with a soft dry cloth. Re-oil occasionally with a light application of mineral oil
